The Perks of Being a Wallflower

First off, I know I haven't posted or reviewed anything in forever, but I really wanted to review a movie I finally saw last night, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I knew it was going to be good but I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away.

The movie is, like most movies, based off a novel that was written by Stephen Chbosky. The film is about a boy named Charlie, played by Logan Lerman, and his freshman experience of high school. At first he is really nervous to start because we later find out his best friend committed suicide earlier in the year, but then he meets two seniors Patrick, Ezra Miller, and his step-sister Sam, Emma Watson, who completely change his outlook on life. Throughout the movie they spend time together such as going to parties, school dances and they even take part of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

What I really enjoy about the movie is that it intellectually challenges the audience to think and insinuate rather than every detail be provided to us. Normally I get really frustrated when a movie doesn't deliver details but this movie had just the right amount of mystery. I knew what was going on and they didn't need to spell out every detail for me. To me, that really sets a movie apart from other boringly detailed movies. It shows just how well it was put together, how the actors did a phenomenal jog and how properly written the scenes were. I was however a little confused at the end when he was having a breakdown about his aunt, but that was partly my own confused mind and not the movie itself.

You really can't watch this movie and not appreciate life more. After I watched it I wanted to leave the theatre and drive with my music really loud, my windows down and just enjoy the moment. It was such an inspirational movie that anyone who is having a hard time fitting in or you just want to be inspired to be a better person should watch. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. This movie definitely deserves a popcorn worthy title.

Shaolin Soccer

So for my first blog post I decided to review an old classic, Shaolin Soccer. The movie is a Hong Kong comedy that was originally released in 2001. It is about a former Shaolin monk who strongly believes in promoting the art of Shaolin Kung Fu. In the movie the monk meets a former legendary Hong Kong soccer star named Golden Leg who wants anything to coach his own team and beat his former rival. After seeing the monk’s ability to play soccer, Golden Leg offers his coaching to the monk who agrees. Throughout the movie they form a soccer team based on Shaolin Kung Fu and compete against Golden Leg’s old rival.

Not only does Shaolin Soccer bring Kung Fu to a beloved sport, but it also uses a lot of dramatization making the movie absolutely hilarious. In the beginning of the movie the monk randomly breaks out into song over the smallest things exaggerating them into something completely funny and random. This use of dialogue not only captures the audience but also makes the movie very unique and memorable. Every character has random moments throughout the movie that makes them unique and intriguing.

If you have not seen Shaolin Soccer I strongly recommend that you check it out it is definitely Popcorn Worthy!
