So for my first blog post I decided to review an old classic,
Shaolin Soccer. The movie is a Hong Kong comedy that was originally
released in 2001. It is about a former Shaolin monk who strongly believes in
promoting the art of Shaolin Kung Fu. In the movie the monk meets a former
legendary Hong Kong soccer star named Golden Leg who wants anything to coach his
own team and beat his former rival. After seeing the monk’s ability to play
soccer, Golden Leg offers his coaching to the monk who agrees. Throughout the
movie they form a soccer team based on Shaolin Kung Fu and compete against
Golden Leg’s old rival.
Not only does Shaolin Soccer bring Kung
Fu to a beloved sport, but it also uses a lot of dramatization making the movie
absolutely hilarious. In the beginning of the movie the monk randomly breaks out
into song over the smallest things exaggerating them into something completely
funny and random. This use of dialogue not only captures the audience but also
makes the movie very unique and memorable. Every character has random moments
throughout the movie that makes them unique and intriguing.
If you have
not seen Shaolin Soccer I strongly recommend that you check it out it is definitely Popcorn Worthy!
